Free fatty acid (FFA) uptake in cells occurs largely by protein-mediated transport of fatty acids across the membrane. Fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs) and fatty acid translocase (FAT/CD36) plays a critical role in the cellular uptake process. Malfunctioning of FFA uptake process plays an important role in the pathogenesis of insulin resistance and obesity. Conventional protocols for fatty acid uptake uses radioactivity, requires processing at very low temperature or FACS, making the assay expensive, slow and unsuitable for high throughput screening. BioIntersect’s Free Fatty Acid Uptake Assay Kit uses a proprietary cocktail of fluorescent fatty acid substrate to enhance signal. Our kit provides a positive control, which specifically delivers FFA to the cellular membranes. Negative control provided in the kit will test the specificity of the uptake process.
